Does God Even Care?

guideWelcome back to our study!  Loving God with All Your Mind Lesson 2 addresses thinking the truth about God and about His Word, the Bible.  Have you ever had thoughts like these?

“God doesn’t really care about me? If He did, He wouldn’t let this happen to me!”

“I don’t need to read the Bible.”

“I don’t know why I keep trying.  I can’t do this!”

I have!  Especially when it comes to how I FEEL about God or how He has chosen to deal with the world.  When will we ever learn that we can’t trust our feelings?  Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is the most deceitful thing there is!  So if our own hearts are lying to us, what are we to do?

Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.   John 17:17

So we can’t trust our own hearts/feelings.  Who can we trust?  John 17:17 tells us that God’s Word IS TRUTH.  God is not walking the earth (in the flesh) in 2015, but we do have His WORD.  We have His thoughts, His promises, His instructions.  So to say that there is nothing for us in the Bible is an ENORMOUS lie from the pit!  The Bible is the key!

When I find myself getting discouraged, anxious and sinking towards depression, that is my signal that my focus is off.  WAY off.  Again, I’m not the only one who struggles with this.  When we begin to feel this way, THAT is the moment we need to refocus.

Let’s look at those lies I mentioned above.

“God doesn’t really care about me? If He did, He wouldn’t let this happen to me!”  Ever felt this way?  What about when something happens in your life that just doesn’t seem fair?  It’s not difficult for our minds to go here.  We must ask ourselves, “What is the truth about God?”  Remember, His Word is TRUTH.  What does His Word say?   There are many stories in scripture that show God’s care for us.  But personally, I need a verse that just spits it out.

…casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.                I Peter 5:7

So I take this verse and I remind myself, over and over, as many times as it takes.  “He CARES for me!  He tells me so in His Word.  The enemy wants me to believe He doesn’t care, that He doesn’t love me”

“I don’t need to read the Bible.”   Here the author points out that it is vital that we accept God’s Word as the ultimate truth.  As a believer, we have already trusted in what the Bible says about Christ, His death on the cross and His resurrection.  We can’t stop there!  Every word of it is truth! For a sponge to absorb water, it must be IN water. For us to absorb truth, we must be IN God's… Click To Tweet

“I don’t know why I keep trying.  I can’t do this!”   This lie starts early in life doesn’t it? The enemy wastes no time distracting us from what God’s Word says to be true.  But God tells us in His Word that we can do ALL things, through Him, who gives us strength.

I am going to end with a excerpt from chapter 2.  This portion ties up my post better than I ever could.

“So…whenever you slip into thinking of yourself as useless, as worthless, as a failure, a hopeless case, or a loser, remember what is true:

  • You are a child of God. (John 1:12)

  • You are His workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)

  • You have been bought by the precious blood of Christ. (I Corinthians 6:20; I Peter 1:18-19)”
