Welcome to OneofHisBranches.com!
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Branches? My name is Beth and I have been blessed to be the wife of a wonderful, godly man since 1985. It just so happens that our last name is…Branch. This name is a daily reminder of who we are. In the case of this blog, it is a reminder of who *I* am. I am one “Branch” who is a part of the Vine, Jesus Christ. He has adopted me and grafted me in and I am forever a part of His family. He is my Strength, my Joy, my Heavenly Father…and my Savior. He never fails me. As He stated in the verse above, I must persist in Him in order to grow spiritually and, in all honesty…to accomplish anything! Because we, branches, are bound to Him, the Vine, we have the ability bend, curl and stretch, but we will never break.
As a woman in my early 50’s, I feel like my life in in a constant state of change. My sons are grown now and one has moved into his own home. My parents and in-laws are getting much older and their health is beginning to fail. My mother died in February of 2014 and assisting my father with her care was my responsibility. As I stand here today and look ahead, I ask myself what HE will need in the coming years. Will he remain independent enough to continue to live alone? Will he need to move in with my husband and I? We only know today, and even that is subject to change according to the will of the Lord.
I know I’m not alone. And neither are you. You and I, and other like us, compose an entire generation who find ourselves releasing the younger generation into their adult lives while welcoming our aging parents back into what we understood to be an “empty nest.”
Empty Nest? As a follower of Christ, we are called to minister to those around us during EVERY season of life. Whether I am ministering as a mother, daughter, or friend, my home, or my nest, is the venue giving me by God where I can meet the needs of others. Nowhere in scripture is there the idea that we will reach a point when we are no longer called to minister!
What you can expect from me. I will try to post at least once per week here on my blog, sharing my experiences, good and bad, with those of you who are also walking down this road. Occasionally there will be guest bloggers who will share their own experience, sometimes from a viewpoint that will shed light on other aspects of this journey.
Will you join me? This path is bursting with new emotions, and some very big decisions. If we do not continue to abide closely to Christ, we will fail to accomplish anything for Him. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Glorifying Him? I am choosing to share my life with you. Will you join me? No one should walk this path alone. I want to walk it with you. Together we can encourage each other as we take those shaky steps forward.
